I went back to Sheep’s Green / Coe Fen in better conditions to capture the veteran and ancient trees. I am really drawn to them, though am not sure why. They are disfigured and neglected, but also resilient and, now, cared for. They are hard to capture, and next to impossible to celebrate without their surroundings getting in the way.
I think I’ll have to go back since for many of these I was using two fixed lights, but that yields frustrating anomalies due to shadows. I’ll return with a faster, sharper lens, and a mobile light to paint the trees and avoid shadow.
