Drone recovery!

I went out to try my DJI FPV drone in Manual Mode for the first time last week. Came out of a big loop and stuffed it into a wheat field. When I consulted the flight log, the last GPS point was the week before when I was flying in a different field.

So I walked all over the biggest wheat field in East Anglia…

I’d covered all of it, but my phone only decided I was exercising after two widths…

So I resigned myself to its loss. DJI wasn’t going to replace it, because “FlyAway” cover doesn’t include knowing where you crashed it. I bought a Mini 3 Pro. Then I thought, “Ooh! I can use this to search the field better….” and spent another two mornings looking at an awful lot of this:

God it was boring. Except when I found a fox. But had filled the memory card….

But what…?! DJI have found up-to-date flight logs in the cloud!

Yes… H is where I was sat and the blue arrow is where it crashed. A 25 metre walk.

So I went back, and flew over it in this pattern. Note the difference between this and the first picture.

And.. what’s this…?!

I’m fairly lucky not to have crashed it into my stupid head. And guess what… after a week and a half outside through at least two rain storms…?

It still works perfectly!

YouTube

Just deleted all of my videos from YouTube. It’s abhorrent for so many reasons. So that’s why probably over a hundred links on this website no longer work….🤨

BBC and Social Media

I am uneasy about the BBC’s promotion of Facebook, Twitter and, recently, WhatsApp when reaching out for listener and viewer interaction. The contributory effects of these media to worsening mental health, erosion of democracy, escalation of hatred, and polarisation of opinion have been repeatedly demonstrated.

Sabotage

Honestly, I’d completely forgotten how great this is. Should be as well-known as Killing In The Name.

Trickle Up

Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day.

Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.

Build an app to create a gig-economy connecting fishermen with hungry people, and become wealthy beyond your wildest imaginings.
